Running late with little time to get ready? Dropping the kids off, or a last-minute run to Target? I’ve been there as well! If we’re being honest, I think I live in this state. Everyone experiences that from time to time so I thought to share with you some of my quick fashion tips for busy moms.
Whenever possible, I aim for versatility in the pieces that I add to my closet. This allows me to go from daycare drop-off to coffee with a friend, and even a social event all in one day by switching a piece or two.
With that being said, having ready-to-go fashion wear can help you save time, all while looking like the mom that has it all together, even though we know those don’t exist 🤣.
Here are 6 tips to help you achieve a classy look in a few minutes:
#1 Knit tops
Regardless of the length of the sleeve, or no sleeve, knit tops give your look an immediate classic lift. Going with neutral colors, such as black, beige, off white, ensures your tops will always match. You can pair them with jeans, joggers, shorts, and for a bonus look, you can pair them with vegan leather pants if you want to jazz it up.
#2 Mom Jeans or Joggers (not the sweatpants type)
I remember growing up being in love with bell bottoms and wider pants. As a teenager I owned one pair of sweatpants, whenever I wanted to dress comfortably I simply wore the jeans I had purchased that were one size bigger than my usual. Not only are mom jeans “in style” but who better to wear them than us, actual moms!
You can switch it up with a pair of print joggers. They can be any color you want them to be, but we love animal print as much as you so why not come out and say it. You’re staying away from sweatpants and tight materials, and looking for your classic pants except these are slightly cuffed at the bottom. This cuff is why we refer to them as “joggers”, and that little detail changes everything. It allows the pants to be worn with sandals, heels, sneakers, boots you name it and it all looks great. Dress it up and dress it down.
#3 These shoes are made for stomping…err walking.
Classic neutral ankle boots are a win. They never go out of style and it is a vital must-have in order to achieve that classy look. If you have your wild days, throw on some print sneakers with your mom- jeans. Yesterday, as I waited to check out at the pediatrician, the neutrality of leopard print shoes became even more obvious. I was wearing black jeans, a burgundy sweater, and leopard print sneakers. At the same time, the mom checking out in front of me was wearing blue jeans, a black sweater, and her leopard print shoes. They really are as neutral as black and brown shoes, so don’t shy away from wearing them.
#4 One piece and that’s it!
This is by far my favorite of all, it’s simple, fast, and cute. Whether you choose to make it a dress, a jumpsuit, or rompers (if the weather permits), you won’t go wrong. I’ll wear it alone, throw on a sweater, and at times a blazer. I’ve worn these with sandals, sneakers, heels, crocs (yes I own a pair 👀). Wear a one-piece with your favorite accessories and you’re set to head out the door.
#5 Add some sparkle!
Now that you have different time-saving outfit ideas, it’s time for the final touch. Wearing simple accessories like a dainty necklace or stud earrings will make a difference in your outfit. I don’t tend to wear a lot of jewelry but when I forget to wear my necklace and earrings I can see the difference in my outfit. If you’re opting to show your personality by wearing vibrant or larger accessories remember to balance the “volume” of your outfit with it.
#6 Don't forget the hair…
Lastly, if your hair is “done” kudos to you, you’re set to go. On the chance that you’re like me and need to do something to it daily here are a few tips. I want to say go ahead and put it in a ponytail, or a bun, but I can’t without first making a note of this. Be aware of your face shape and how bun/ ponytails fit your shape. For me, the high bun works wonders, however, if I wear it 1-2 inches down I look like a kid whose mom forgot to help with her hair.
Bonus tip: I not only use these tips when I’m in a rush, sometimes I use them to maximize time. For example, if I want to do my hair, straighten it or wash it to leave it naturally curly, it can take me 1 ½-2 hrs. If planned properly, I can have the time to do this, get dressed without a hassle, and still make it out in time.
